The Columbus Blue Jackets are members of the Eastern Conference of the NHL. The team replaced the Columbus Chill of the ECHL, and was founded as an expansion team in 2000.

The team is affiliated with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL and the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. Some of the more prominent NHL players to have played for the team include Jack Johnson, Marian Gaborik, Sergei Bobrovsky, David Vyborny, Ray Whitney, Bryan Berard, Fredrik Modin, Steve Mason, Rick Nash, and Sergei Fedorov.

All of the team's home games are played at Nationwide Arena located in the Arena District.
