The Royal Alexandra Theatre is a National Historic Landmark building, and the oldest continuously operating legitimate theatre in North America. The theatre, often referred as the "Royal Alex," is named for Queen Alexandra, a Danish princess and great-grandmother of the present queen. The theatre received a "royal" patent from Edward VII, and is believed to be the only remaining legally "royal theatre" in North America. The theatre is currently used for hosting touring Broadway shows.
