The Steamship William G. Mather is a retired Great Lakes freighter that now serves as a restored museum ship. Named after the former president of the Cleveland-Cliffs Company, William Gwinn Mather, the Steamship took historic voyages, often breaking ground in new ports, to ship coal, steel, and other cargo items throughout the the U.S. The steamship played a pivotal role in shipping supplies for the Allied Forces during World War II. After 55 years of service, the steamship was converted into a maritime museum that is open to the general public. The steamship is currently located in Dock 32 near the Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
