The USS COD is an old World War II era GATO class fleet submarine that is now a floating memorial in downtown Cleveland. The submarine was used in seven war patrols, and awarded seven battle stars for successfully completing its missions. COD was later restored as a museum ship, and designated an US National Landmark. Unlike other restored submarines, visitors have an opportunity to use the same vertical ladders and hatches that were used by the crew. The submarine is currently docked on Lake Erie, one block east of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
