The Bijou Theatre operated in the early 1800s as The Lamar House, a premier hotel and one of the oldest commercially active properties in Knoxville. The hotel was later converted into a theater, and renamed the Bijou Theatre. The Bijou celebrated its 100th birthday in 2009, and each year the theatre celebrates its anniversary with the Bijou Jubilee.
