The Grauman's Egyptian Theatre is an iconic Hollywood movie theatre that hosted the first-ever Hollywood film premiere. The theater was built and named after popular showman, Sid Grauman, who later also built the nearby El Capitan Theatre and Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. The exterior and interior walls of the theatre feature Egyptian-style paintings and hieroglyphics, inspired by the public's fascination at that time with the finding of King Tut's tomb. After years of abandonment in the 1980s and early 1990s, the theatre was restored and is now currently owned by the American Cinematheque. In the restored theatre, the Egyptian now offers a second screening theatre named after Hollywood director Steven Spielberg.
