Tower Bridge opened in 1935 as a replacement for the 1911 M Street Bridge in Sacramento. The bridge crosses the Sacramento River, connecting West Sacramento in Yolo County to Sacramento in Sacramento County. Tower Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, and is considered among the most beautiful and unique vertical lift bridges to be found.
